Description |
This incredible mask is both large in size and
large in artistry. The wood is covered by animal
skin which is coloured in a beautiful red hue
which offsets the amazing eyes and teeth. The
mask would have been worn during a ceremony
where the asset of the double head would have
been a great advantage when trying to attract
attention. All the features are present to give the
mask a sense of realism. The top of the mask is
also covered by human hair which only adds to
the realism. On both faces, a circular design by
the ear can also be found adding an interesting
decoration to a fascinating mask. In relation to
other masks found in Africa, this piece carries a
great presence with it , making it a monumental
work of art.
