Description |
In this beautiful icon Christ and St. John the Baptist, done in the "Lubok" style, are set against a rich dark blue and white background. On the left panel Christ holds an open book upon which is written, "Lord, full of grace, Lord Jesus, my Son and God, hear the prayers of your Mother." The inscription on either side of Him reads, "Jesus Christ, Holy Theocrator". His clothing is beautifully modeled with considerable detail, as is His very finely coiffed beard and hair. On the right panel St. John the Baptist offers his blessings, his head tilted humbly to the side, wearing a fine robe over his penitential hair shirt. Within this very fine icon we see two worlds, the world of flesh and the realm of the spirit; of the past being present here and now while eternity too is present as an ever real possibility for the faithful.
