In a stunning realistic depiction, Drew McRitchie
has captured the essence of a metallic object.
Wonderfully detailed, the gold mask in “Shadow
Dancer” leaps from the canvas as if part of the
real world. To accentuate the realism, McRitchie
juxtaposes the mask with a rough depiction of a
wooden pole upon which the mask hangs. Even
the shadow which falls upon the wall fades into
the realm of the imaginary, the not real. It is only
the mask that virtually extends from the painted
surface, inviting us to touch what does not exist.
