Created in the Tanagra style this lovely female
stands upon a circular base. Her peplos (a heavy,
sleeveless tunic) and himation (a rectangular-
shaped mantle) are wrapped tightly around her
providing areas of drapery folds. Traces of blue are
seen on her peplos, with rose madder used on the
borders of the himation. Her auburn hair is
adorned with a laurel wreath and tied in a low
chignon at back. Taranto, in southern Italy, is
renowned for their richly colored terra-cottas, and
it is probably this beautiful statue comes from that
site.
