Description |
This genuine Siberian emerald weighs 23 carats
and has been set in a mahta-shaped gold
pendant adorned with 4 genuine Burmese rubies.
Centuries ago, in the temples and synagogues of
the holy land, the fragrant smoke of incense
filled the air. This blend of rare spices and gums
was though to please the deity and the to purify
the air of the sanctuary. A costly sacrifice,
incense was considered the worthy gift of
princes and kings. The mahta, or incense shovel,
was employed in the ritual of incense burning
and was also used to remove the ashes
afterwards. This golden mahta echoes forms
from the classical world. Instead of perfumed
incense, it holds the cool fire of a rare cabochon
emerald. A contemporary variation on an ancient
theme, it is certain to make whoever wears it
today feel like royalty.
