This lustrous stone is distinguished by skillful carving and drilling techniques. This is a magnificent representation of a high-status male of Ancient Mayan royalty. One side of the celt has symbols that make references to the accession of a Mayan ruler. These small signs have deep symbolic meanings; depicting scenes from the Mayan culture. On the opposite side the king is robed in full costume, with a royal headdress that has an eagle like bird on the crest. This polished blade is drilled for suspension, in order to be worn in groupings of three. It most probably was worn around the waist on a belt. Again, this shows the symbolic importance of the work. The unquestionable beauty of the delicate carvings remains to be revered by both Ancient and the modem man. - (PF.3295)
